Steven Rogers
Captain America
Gender: Male
General Appearance:
A stoic champion chiselled out of the america dream, Steve Rogers looks like the ideal physical specimen. Blonde, tall, muscular; it is as if he stepped out of an Iowa cornfield during the early 1940s to answer America's call to war.
Personality:
Steve Rogers is the physical representation of the American dream, loyal, patrotic; whose beliefs mirror that of our countries greatest generation. Polite, honorable, duty bound. All these words and more define Steve Rogers personality and are at the core of Captain America. He is driven to show America that there are still goals to aspire to, that we are still a great country and his passion for his country is matched only by his boundless devotion to the idea that all men and women are created equal, with liberty and justice for all.
Occupation: Current Member of the Avengers, Former member of SHIELD, Artist, Teacher and ex military (US Army)
Super Power:
Captain America represented the pinnacle of human physical perfection. He experienced a time when he was augmented to superhuman levels, but generally performed just below superhuman levels for most of his career. Captain America had a very high intelligence as well as agility, strength, speed, endurance, and reaction time superior to any Olympic athlete who ever competed. The Super-Soldier formula that he had metabolized had enhanced all of his bodily functions to the peak of human efficiency. Most notably, his body eliminates the excessive build-up of fatigue-producing poisons in his muscles, granting him phenomenal endurance.
Captain America had mastered the martial arts of American-style boxing and judo, and had combined these disciplines with his own unique hand-to-hand style of combat. He had also shown skill and knowledge of a number of other martial arts. He engaged in a daily regimen of rigorous exercise (including aerobics, weight lifting, gymnastics, and simulated combat) to keep himself in peak condition. Captain America was one of the finest human combatants Earth had ever known.
-Weaknesses:
Steve despite his many gifts is still vulnerable to injury and disease though his system makes his incredibly resistant to most poisons and viruses. His greatest weakness is his out moded beliefs in a modern world, his inability at times to see the darker side of the human nature and his absolute refusal to belief in the America dream, something that his enemies have manipulated in his time and time again
Weapons:
Captain America's only weapon was his shield, a concave disk 2.5 feet in diameter, weighing 12 pounds. It is made of a unique Vibranium-metal alloy that has never been duplicated. The shield was cast by American metallurgist Dr. Myron MacLain, who was contracted by the U.S. government to create an impenetrable substance to use for tanks during World War II. MacLain was never able to duplicate the process due to his inability to identify a still unknown factor that played a role in it. The shield was awarded to Captain America by the government several months after the beginning of his career. The shield has great aerodynamic properties: it is able to slice through the air with minimal wind resistance and deflection of path. Its great overall resilience, combined with its natural concentric stiffness, enables it to rebound from objects with minimal loss of angular momentum. It is virtually indestructible: it is resistant to penetration, temperature extremes, and the entire electromagnetic spectrum of radiation. The only way it can be damaged in any way is by tampering with its molecular bonding.
Team Affiliation:
Secret Avengers; formerly the Avengers, Invaders, Captain's Unnamed Superhero Team, Redeemers; formerly partner of Bucky, Rick Jones, Falcon, Demolition Man and Nomad (Jack Monroe)
History:
Beginnings
Steve Rogers grew up in Brooklyn during the Great Depression, a scrawny kid protected from neighborhood bullies by his best friend James "Bucky" Barnes. Horrified by newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the Army around the time the United States entered World War II, but because time and again he failed the physical tests, he was rejected. His luck changed during another visit to Recruitment Center when Military Sergeant Dugan recruited him for Project: Rebirth after hearing Rogers's pleas. After voluntarily subjecting to surgery, steroid treatments, and other experimental treatments supervised by Dr. Erskine, Rogers became the first genetically-enhanced super-soldier. During the final treatment however, he noticed a suspicious soldier focusing on him instead of standing guard. The shady man revealed himself as a Nazi spy sent to murder Rogers in the event that he survived the experiment. Rogers stopped him, but not before the spy murdered Doctor Eskine and a few American soldiers who attempted to stop him. Fully committing himself to the American war efforts, Rogers bid farewell to his sweetheart Gail and became Captain America.
For the next three years, he undertook numerous covert operations, often accompanied by Bucky, now a war photographer, and sometimes "Lucky" Jim Howlett (later the X-Men's Wolverine). During World War II he came into battle with the alien Chitauri Herr Kleiser, who introduced a prototype A-Bomb made with alien technology and meant to target the White House. Though too late to stop the bomb's launch, Captain America managed to get to the bomb moments before its launch. In a successful attempt to stop it in mid-air, he fell to the sea, presumed deceased.
Sample Role Play
It started off as such a simple day for Steve, one of the few that he had off from his busy duties as leader of the Avengers and his other commitments but it was a sunny day in New York and here in Central Park he was able to relax and enjoy himself. He purchased a hot dog from a local vendor that he knew, Vinnie made the best dogs in New York and he was not afraid to let those around him know it either but he had a marvelous way with making sure that he only put on the right amount of relish.
Steve was just wiping his mouth when he saw a group of children playing Avengers, he spotted the easily enough. There was Thor with his mighty hammer, and there was Iron Man with his armor. All the children were battling the evil Kang and Steve had to chuckle as he watched Captain America charge into action, he had one of those toy shields that Hasbro was selling and it seemed in their game that Kang had the upper hand until Cap arrived, staring his opponent dead in the eye he cried out "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!" Of course all of his team leaped up and the titantic battle begun.
Steve continued to watch and waved at a couple that passed by but he was enjoying watching the Avengers triumph over the evil Kang. Captain America hurled his shield but it bounced off a tree and landed next to Steve's foot. He bent down and picked it up, the young Captain America running up to him, Steve returned his shield with a smile on his face "Go on now, your team needs you." The kid nodded and with a laugh charged back into the fray, Steve shook his head as he stood up. If this was the future of America then he decided, the future was a bright thing indeed and he went back to his walk around Central Park.
