Bruce was working on what had become his life and obsession, unlocking the secrets to the super soldier formula and the cure for the condition that he had caused to himself. He still remembered that night in the lab when he had taken his variant on the formula and his entire life had changed.
He gazed at the test tube in his hand and wondered how something so small could cause such fundamental changes in someones life; of course as a scientist Bruce knew all too well how this could make those changes possible but it was more of a circumspect reflection now that he looked at it. He set the test tube into the centrifuge with the other test samples and activated it, it would take several minutes for the centrifuge to do its work so it allowed him to check on some other results.
He sat down at the desk and took a slide, he added a small amount of another sample he had prepared prior to this recent batch and looked into the microscope to see what was happening within its cells. He was looking for a specific RNA sequence within the 4th, 29th and 63rd base pairs which was where his Hulk mutated cells were located. He continued to focus on his work for what seemed like hours and still no progress; he took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes as once again he saw that the sample was unchanged.
It was as he was trying to calm down his emotions when he got a call; he picked up the phone "Yes?" "Dr Banner, General Fury wants you to report to the medical lab. It would seem we have recovered Captain America and he wants you there ASAP" "Oh my god, of course. Tell General Fury I will be right there." Bruce grabbed his jacket and made for the door, for years he had been working on this and now he had a chance to get an original sample. This was his chance for a cure from the Hulk and to finally vindicate his position here at SHIELD maybe even fix things with Betty. Yes everything was going to change now thanks to Captain America.
He was walking out the door when his secure phone rang, he picked it up as it was mounted on the wall near the door "Betty? Yes I can meet you before I go down to the lab." He wondered what it was that Betty wanted but she was the one person he would delay seeing Captain America for.
