These are the guidelines we expect everyone including the mods to follow. Always talk to me if you have problems with anything on the board first before it gets aired out in public.
1. Standard for keeping up with your characters in at least a post every week, with one of your characters. It doesn't have to be all of them. However, if none are RP'd with in one full week (or so), they will all become available for the rest of the board to take if you don't let us know you are going to be away or do not respond to the admin's when they question your current dip in activity. Honestly, I want to flood this board with RP's. I will be on almost daily, and hate being in RPG boards that respond once a week to a post. If that is how you want to RP you are certainly welcome here, and will find yourself happy. But I want to stress activity on this board. If you are going to be away, we have a form to fill out to let us know. (A PM works as well) Switching characters is also ok to do. Just ask first.
2. Shoutbox manners. I have the power to block people from the c-box, or the RPG in general based on ISP address. So please remember everyone on the board can read that chat box as soon as you post it. There will be absolutely no strong swearing, or insulting of other people in the c-box. I will ban people from the chat box, even if they are still in the RPG.
3. General manners will be expected in every thread just like the chat box. No harsh cursing, as we need to keep our search filter clean to attract more members. Use symbols like: $%&* in your swears, and everything will be fine. No OOC insulting of any other person on the board period. You got a problem? Talk to myself or a mod. Always go through us first, as talking to something using just text can easily lead to assumptions.
4. Omni-posting. Omni-posting is when a character is in two places at once. In this rpg, we allow people to have more than a few characters, so we try to keep omni-posting at a lower level. I don't want thirty threads with Spider-man in them. Just pick a good one, and spend some time RPing with someone, but feel free to go ahead and RP in more than one place so you don't get stuck.
5. God-modding, is the easiest way to annoy people. Simply put, you RP the actions of your character. You say they swing for a persons face, and leave it up to the person, to either dodge it, take it a little, or let it go full-force. God-modding works both ways, if you say you land a certain attack, you leave them no option to dodge it. With some characters, that's a death sentence. However, always dodging every move makes a fight useless and boring. It will be your job to make sure you don't jump into a post with a person who would kill you in one shot, so you'd have to dodge everything. Even it out, Marvel is a big universe. Also, your own created characters are the only characters that can die in this board. If someone dies in canon, and the person doesn't want them anymore, we may write them off. But even your created needs a stamp to get killed, as I don't want it to happen all the time.
6. With the exception of possibly your first post, and a few along the way; Don't start a thread and end it yourself in just a few RP's, at least give someone a chance to get in on it. Private messaging people is a very easy way to get plots going. Talk to me, a mod, the person directly, use the shoutbox, or just post a thread in the OOC asking for someone to RP with, it's quite simple. Always putting (Open) in the title helps to bring people into your threads. As well as (Closed) will help keep over-powered characters from interrupting.
7. I will be limiting the characters to 5 when you join. We are currently only looking for cannon characters to the Marvel Universe. As you post more on the board we will allow you to pick up more characters. Once you're at the max of 3 just ask an admin if you could pick up more. The answer will almost always be yes as long as you are active and non toxic.
8. Try to balance out your strengths when joining a post. If the Vulture is robbing a bank, we don't really need Hulk and Sentry to come stop him. It almost forces a person to god-mod to avoid being destroyed. However, if the thread is going nowhere, someone may have to step in whether they're over-powered or not
9. I can tell who everyone is by ISP address. (It's a number your computer sends out when it uses the internet) So DO NOT just make a bunch of accounts and try to rack up as many guys as possible. Just keep your 5, and if you are really good, and loyal, I don't see myself denying a good RPer even more guys. And you can make multiple accounts, as some people like to have every character have an account so the names and banners match up. Just say in your application that it's still you, because I'll know right off anyway, so let's keep it honest. If you are starting another account, with the same ISP, and it is inf act NOT you, but a room-mate, family member, friend using your computer, etc. Just send me a PM to let me know, so I don't assume you're cheating the system. You do not need details, just say another person will be joining using your ISP, the reason doesn't matter.
10. Avatar pictures must be 150x150 pixels.
11. Grammar, and spelling. Every post has spell check already at work. You see that squiggly red line under every work that's strange? It's telling you it's not in the dictionary. Use it, right-click on the work, and spell check takes care of the rest. Some words just aren't in there, and you can just let it go. Like Deadpool and Chicamunga. Both will be okay. (Hopefully in the same sentence)
12. All post MUST be a full paragraph, at the shortest. There will not be any two line RP's unless they're few and far between. The easiest way to expand an RP, is to narrate the thoughts of the character. Try to read a post or two from the mods, to see how we format our posts.
13. NPC's will be used quite often, especially for super-powered guys, and non-powered. Anyone not famous, like a doctor or a person on the street, you can RP with in any thread freely. However, people needed for plots, and are not taken, can be picked up temperately (Even if you have 5 already). Just run the plot by me, and ask for who you want. All standards will of course apply for those characters as well. Myself or my mods will gladly RP as an NPC so you don't have to RP with yourself.
14. Try to balance out how many times you post, with how often the other people in the thread post. If three people are in it, and 2 are RPing far too much, the third will be left in the dust. Consequentially, if the person with you never RP's, we may have a problem, send them or myself a whisper.
15. Most of all, if you can't tell by the wording, I'm not an overly hard person to deal with on a message board. I ran one for 3 years, and keep a very level head about anything, I'll stretch almost all rules if it's for the best intention. Just don't abuse it, because it's pretty easy to just ban someone forever.
16. Normally the history section for comic book RPG boards is a huge copy and paste for the most part covering 60+ years of a characters existence. However, with this board starting at the very start of the Ultimate universe there is very little history known for most characters. Give a brief rundown of what is known of your character at the beginning of the Ultimate universe and from there you can take it any direction you'd like once you get onto the board!
my e-mail address is Cooldevil13@aol.com, which is also my AIM screen name. So the shoutbox, private messaging, and the forms above, are all ways to keep in contact with me. My mods will also have contact info readily available.
