"You cannot stop the inevitable Captain America."
He was back in the Castle where the Nazis were assembling their doomsday weapon, he had been briefed to expect the Aliens who were assisting Hitler and his ilk in finishing their nuclear weapons program and over the last few months he had been in several engagements with the Chitauri especially one of their leaders Herr Kleiser.
Now he was in close combat with him again, the Chitauri wore human forms but they were inhumanly strong and he had already dented his shield with blows from his fist. "I've stopped you before Kleiser and I'll do it again." He remembered Kleiser laughing as the Nazi scientists prepared to launch the missile as Kleiser and he battled back and forth, he had to admit that the bastard was strong but he was arrogant and rash which he planned to use to his advantage.
Cap leaped over Kleiser and drove his shield into the back of Kleiser's legs bringing him to his knees then pivoting off his leg as he landed he came around with a vicous swinging kick sent Kleiser flying backwards; crashing into one of the near by computer panels which promptly exploded in a hail of sparks and flame.
He could remember him laughing as he pulled himself off the panel, his eyes blazing with arrogant fury as he chuckled at his efforts "You are too late Captain, LAUNCH THE MISSILE." Cap looked as several technicians activated the missile and the rockets started to fire; the entire facility started to rock and shake as the huge missile came to life. The roar of the firing seemed to dim all around but Cap could still hear Kleiser's laughter "NOW WATCH YOUR FUTURES END CAPTAIN AMERICA!"
The missile was targetting Washington, the Joint Chiefs, the President and the population of that great city would see a new dawn rise in the night and that would be the last thing they would ever see. He could hear them in his mind crying out for god to save them, for him to raise his divine hand to protect them. He couldn't speak to what God had intended but he was there and he could still do something; Kleiser was in his way but that wasn't a problem. Cap drove his fist into Kleiser's gut and then rushed past him as he did, then he leaped off the railing surrounding the missile and drove his shield into its metal skin. Kleiser looked up as the missile climbed out of the facility and laughed to himself, there was nothing he could do to stop that missile.
The wind pulled at Cap's face as the missile rushed upwards at unbelievable speed, the troops that he had brought with him looked upwards as they saw their failure rising into the nights sky. Cap continued to climb, he would not give up, he refused to believe that the Nazis would win this war with one missile not if he had anything to do with it but he had to figure out a way to stop it. He reached one of the future injection ports and with a mighty heave tore the panel covering free, he could smell the distinctive fume of fuel and he knew what he had to do next. He pulled his last grenade from his belt and popped the pin; he hesitated for a moment; if he did this then he would never go home, he would never see Gail again. But his country would be spared the horror of nuclear devastation and that in and of itself was enough for him. He slammed the grenade into the opening and then kicked off to try and clear the blast.
Seconds passed and then the grenade exploded, the night sky lit and all around thought that the sun had done the impossible and risen early. The blastwave knocked all down to the ground all wondering how any man could stand before such destruction and not be changed by the experience. Cap was caught too close and sent crashing down into the icy northern waters of the Atlantic, as he sank into its gloomy depths, his mind closing down; he could remember his last thought being of Gail and the sounds of her laughter as he passed from this life into memory....

2013 9:35am The Triskelion-
"I can't believe we found him." Spoke First Lieutenant Daniel Ketch holding his firearm at his hip as he looked through a special examination room within the Triskelion as two medical agents stand outside allowing the patient room to breath. Standing inside the room were 10 armed SHIELD agents pointing guns at the patient who was covered in a long white blanket that only allowed vision of his head. "This guy saved all of us in 1945. He was basically the first super hero in the world. Everyone think's he died killing Nazi's and blowing up their doomsday device somewhere off of Newfoundland and now here we are.... 24 hours ago some Marine scientists find Captain Freakin' America in a block of ice perfectly preserved." He says in amazement as he cant keep his eyes off Captain America laying still in what appears to be a comatose state inside the examination room.
1st Lt. Ketch reaches to his ear to activate his comm system. "I know the Ultimates are busy and all but this is like Christmas morning down here. Can we get Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow and any other higher ups to the Med wing ASAP? We don't know when or if Captain America will wake but I think the Ultimates would be better equipped handling this then ten SHIELD cadets with itch trigger fingers and a few doctors who are about to piss themselves." Lt. Ketch said with annoyance in his voice as he knew to not over step boundaries and hang back in the hallway.

-New York City-
There were not many sights in all the nine realms that could take a Gods breath away but the sight of the edifices that the mortals of midgard had built did exactly that to the God of Thunder. He could still remember when they were living in wooden huts and sailing the seas in ships barely worthy of the name but beseeching his intervention in calming the storms that would ravenge their coasts and destroy their livelyhoods.
He had taken his responsibilities as the God of Thunder seriously, finding in the people of midgard a kinship that he had often lacked in Asgard. Now that times had changed he still found that he had that fasination with midgard that he had developed centuries before, now they had technology and relied more on themselves then on the Gods of old but there was still a spark of belief that he sensed as he spied those looking upon him as he flew high above.
He was gazing out over the city, his cloak caught in the morning breeze as the sun rose slowly in the skies. Everything seemed so clear to him as he stood ontop of the Empire State Building; he was breathing the air of midgard and standing beside heroes whose powers and abilities could stand them equal with any warrior of noble Asgard. He had not been home as of late, his latest argument with Odin still weighing on his mind, too often did he seem a Prince of Midgard rather than Asgard to his father but he had chosen to defend Midgard and wished his father would respect his decision.
His communicator chimed and he listened as some from SHIELD informing him that some mortal known as Captain America had been discovered and that they were summoning the Ultimates back. He wondered who this Captain America was but he must be a man of some import if they were summoning them back for the occasion; he continued to muse over the reasons why as he twirled Mjolnir in his hand and launched himself into the air heading towards SHIELD HQ

Well how bout that. The news had been spread though the ranks of the higher ups. S.H.I.E.L.D was in an uproar at the discovery of a lifetime. Found in the ice in a remote location within the Atlantic Ocean, Marine scientists had discovered the frozen remains of an icon. The backbone of the Battle of Normandy and the first superhero that ever came out of America. The kid from Brooklyn that had become a man after a science experiment had gone miraculously right.
Captain Steven Rogers. Captain America.
The kicker? They discovered that his remains were perfectly intact and the Captain's body was now here in New York in a S.H.I.E.L.D facility. When he got the call he dropped everything to come and be apart of this, probably the greatest scientific advancement America had ever achieved and now they were calling in some of the countries greatest minds to answer a simple question. Now that they had Captain America's body.. what should they do with it?
Arriving in style on The Triskelion as he always did Tony Stark climbed out of his helicopter and quickly buttoned the button on his suit before he walked into the main medical facility of the island with his entourage in tow. The most important of them carrying a metal briefcase, colored red and silver. Looked to be stylized after his armor, what few knew was that it was an actual suit for emergency occasions. Getting inside, he showed his passcard and moved further into the base.
He was excited, he was actually about to see what was left of a legend.

As Ketch stood watch in the medical bay hallway, the elevator at the end of the hallway opened revealing the one and only Iron Man Tony Stark walking out in one of his suits that Danny was sure probably costs more then he makes in a year while carrying a metallic suitcase, most likely designer brand.
Ketch made his way towards Tony Stark as he holstered his weapon and held out his hand to Stark to meet him. "Mr. Stark, i'm first lieutenant Daniel Ketch. I'm over seeing the operation here. It appears that over night we found the fully preserved body of Captain America. We thawed the body since it arrived and we aren't exactly sure when or if he'll come out of this... suspended animation. Not even sure if that would be the right term... but we felt that the Ultimates should be here for this." Ketch said trying to explain the strange situation in the best way that he could. "Reports have it that Thor is currently flying here. Not sure about the others, we haven't had any word. Anyway... Mr. Stark, welcome to our key to the super soldier formula." Danny said as he reached out to open the examination room door giving access to Tony Stark into the room that is holding the comatose Captain America.

Natalia ran at a full sprint ducking and weaving between the moving obstacles, the door was closing too fast. She slid on her knees arching her back in order to make her way into the last room of the training course. She continued her momentum, flipping her weight over onto her hands and propelling herself onto her feet in a backflip so she could stand to face the myriad of targets. As the first one lit up she knocked it over with a punch and then an elbow to the face. The second to light up was further away, single shot to the torso. The third she propelled herself on top of just as the light was lighting up, landing on the target's neck and 'snapping it' with her thighs before hopping off acrobatically.
"Time is two minutes three seconds." chimed a computerized voice.
"Pathetic." Romanova chided herself. She knew she could have completed the circuit in less than two. "Reset the course."
"Confi..." said the voice of the course operator, but he seemed to cut himself off. "Negative, it seems you're needed in Examination room three."
Examination room three. She had heard what was coming here. Indeed it had been the primary reason why she had chosen to spend the morning training on base. But still... even the unflappable Natalia Romanova couldn't help but be a little nervous. This was going to be history. This is where they had *the* Captain America. Most of the world's governments would have given half their annual defense budgets for a tiny quantity of the man's blood. And they were hoping to wake him up.

"Lieutenant," he said with a nod of his head. He didn't think he had ever met this man before but he explained that he was overseeing the recovery of Captain America's body. From what it seemed, the Lieutenant too had the same idea that he had. The Captain was the only link to Doctor Erskine's original super soldier serum. If there was anyway to duplicate it, it would be in Steven Roger's blood and now they had his body. "It sounds like he went into a cryogentic state, the combination of the ice and his enhanced physiology, kept our little Capsicle perfectly preserved. The idea he could come out of this is nothing short of miraculous."
Hearing Thor and the other Ultimates were on there way, it seemed that Nick Fury was calling in the big guns. In a way he was surprised Reed Richards wasn't here.. though why on Earth they'd need him was beyond him, after all they already had the great Tony Stark. His attention turned when the Lieutenant opened a door and showed a taste for the theatrical when he welcomed him to the key to the super soldier serum. Tony couldn't help but smile, he was going to like this guy.
Those thoughts set aside he walked inside and caught his first glimpse of Captain America laying on a bed with a white sheet on top of the body. However one thing he did notice was the ten S.H.I.E.L.D agents in attendance pointing guns at the body. Tony stood silent at first, looked at the Lieutenant and then turned back to the guys in the room. "Umm.. don't suppose I could ask for you all to put your weapons down? I don't suppose the Captain is going to jump up and start dancing any time soon, even then.. show of hands who wants to be the guy who kills Captain America, a task Nazi's and over 60 years frozen in ice couldn't do."

Thor landed on the roof and as usual there was guards there which were to be expected, unlike many others who were disturbed by the military presence around the Ultimates but Thor was used to be surrounded by guards and having armed men around him. They reminded him of the royal guards that populated his Fathers palace in Asgard and he nodded at them as he strode into the facility.
He walked down the hallsways and was still amazed at the level of development that humanity had managed to achieve in such a short period of time; it would not be long before they were the equals of Asgard which was still a raw point with many who resided within the golden halls. There was something in the air that was different from the other times he had walked these halls, a buzz of excitement that was unusual in such a somber place.
People were chatting and were moving about with purpose and in hush tones they spoke of Captain America. He had heard such reverence before in the mouths of mortals but only when invoking heroes of legend or the gods of old; again it made him wonder what a man this Captain America could be if he could create such a sense of wonder in those who had seen things ranging from alien warlords to the very demons of the deep.
He questioned on of the guards on duty and they directed him to the appropiate floor and he waited for the elevator to arrive. When the doors open he saw that Nick Fury was inside, the man in charge of SHIELD, he nodded at the Thunder God and made room for him to enter; Fury was a hard one to pick even for him. He was a man of incredible willpower but also of secrets and in that way he reminded Thor of Loki, secrets had a way of twisting a man from the inside and so it made him weary of the eye patched man beside him.
They exited the elevator and he saw the guards and others gathered in the large medical chamber; he saw Stark who was in one of his fine suits again. He liked Stark, he had an arrogant swagger about him that would see hit fit amongst the company of Asgard but he was also an excellent engineer and warrior having proven his worth as Iron Man many times in the field of battle; Thor approached Tony in greeting "Ah Stark, tis good to see you hale and well my friend." He glanced over at the table with the prone body of Captain America; he was indeed whole but there was something about him that reminded him of Balder. It was strange indeed that amongst so many mortals he would see aspects of Asgard where ever he looked and he wondered if they would be able to restore this man to life, it would be interesting to meet the man and see if he indeed lived up to the legend.

No one would likely notice the petite woman slip in behind the behemoth that was the God of Thunder. All the better for Natalia. She hadn't quite made the acquaintance of the other Ultimates yet, and she would prefer to assess the room before anyone tried to engage her. She noted the instrument trays upon which the scientists were working, counted the number of scalpels they had with them, gauged the distance between the unconscious symbol of the American dream and each of the potential targets. This room would be child's play if anyone wanted to get violent. And given what the super soldier fell asleep to she wouldn't be surprised if he did. Hopefully all that time in the ice would act as a sedative and he'd wake up sluggish.

This was the news that Nick had been waiting for, the recovery of Captain America. He had read all of his file and the project that created him, to have him in such perfect condition could advance their own attempts to replicate the experiment carried out then by years or even decades. What was more important to him was the fact that they had finally recovered Captain America, for him and the country he still represented everything that was right and good with the country. He was a hero to all and a legend to all the men and women who had followed in his footsteps and answered the call to duty even a young african american boy who dreamed of fighting beside him and ended up as the head of SHIELD.
He had decided to wear his US Army uniform with the rank insignia of General proudly displayed, his start had been with the army and he had spent proud years in the service but now as he looked down at the prone symbol of America's liberty he wondered what it would have been like back then in WW2 fighting beside him against one of the most evil forces in all of human history. He looked over at 1st Lt Ketch "Report Lieutenant."

Ketch stood at attention as Nick Fury, Thor & Black Widow entered the room shortly after Tony Stark. "Sir." Ketch began speaking with a salute to General Fury. "We don't have much to report that you don't already know. The thawing process has been completed and Captain America seems to be in some sort of coma state, but perfectly preserved. I believe Mr. Stark had better information then myself on the scientific side of things." He said as he reached out for the examination rooms door once again holding it open for Fury, Black Widow & Thor.
As 1st Lt. Ketch looked in he saw that Stark was telling the armed guards to lower their rifles. "Mr. Stark, we have orders to stay on guard. General Fury can back me up on this. It's as much for his safety as it is the doctors on staff." Danny said trying to defuse the situation as his attention is stunted for a moment as he catches a glimpse of Black Widow. He wasn't used to women looking quite like that at the Triskelion as he gulped for a moment and returned his attention back towards Iron Man.
(I may be wrong but i believe Fury is a General here. I know when Gah Lak Tus comes, he's a General then atleast in the comics.)

The woman did not like the look of the security arrangements, they would be perfectly fine for normal humans, but for enhanced beings they were inadequate. "Director Fury, I am not entirely comfortable with the security arrangements in this room. There are way too many potential weapons and too many people in too small of a space." she says, without any sort of pleasantry. "If, and I certainly hope this isn't the case, he were to wake up edgy or, even worse, brain damaged... we could suffer massive casualties in here."

"If the Cap-sicle wakes up violent, I'll put 6oz of steel right through his skull." Clint spoke as he finally entered the lighted side of the room. He was also concerned like Natalia about the strength of this room to keep contained a man such as Steve Rogers. He read his reports, his knew what Captain America was capable when he was in a good mode. He didn't need to find out how he would react if he thought he was being kid napped. Which he pretty much was. "I'm with Widow on this one. Did we think about looking up any of his old friend, call the local hospital to look for dying vets who can't even wipe their own asses? And see if any of them knows this guy? Give him some piece of mind before we make him listen to One Direction on the cab ride home? That alone would send me over the line, and I've lived through this time."
Clint had a certain arrow in mind, as he always did, and had it ready to go. He was excited at the chance to work with Captain America, any SHIELD agent should be. But super powered beings were a bit of a new thing, and it was getting tighter and tighter around the world, with kids who can blast a mountain range with their eyes. It's why he kept close to Black Widow, it kept him grounded. "Did anyone call Coulson? If anyone can keep a guy in line with just a stare, it's that unassuming blank stare of a man."

Tony was a bit dumbfounded at the overreaction going on in this room. "Unbelievable. This man here is an American Hero, this guy is an old friend to every American who loves freedom, apple pie and fast cars." They had Captain America here laying comatose and every person in the room felt they didn't have enough security on him? What were they insane? Especially Hawkeye coming in and explaining he had an arrow to put in the Captain's head should he ever wake up. These people were killing him.
"Let's think for a moment, we're all in a coma, we wake up to find.." Tony's words broke off as he looked around the room, counting each person in the room to really enforce his point before he went on. "Ten S.H.I.E.L.D guys, the woman of my dreams in the form of a super sexy red haired spy, anti-Robin Hood, the Lieutenant and General Patches here all staring at him with guns drawn... not the best welcome party, right?" For Tony, this seemed like a no brainer, of course he'd have a negative reaction to all this aggression, who wouldn't?
"Come on people, even if this was a problem look at him," Tony said as he moved over and tapped Captain America on the forehead. "He isn't waking up any time soon and even if he did he probably wouldn't even be able to move! I think we can all stand down."

The wind blew across his face and the smell of grain filled his nose as he gazed out over the cornfields of Iowa, it was close to sun down and the light played across the fields turning them to gold. He looked out at his neighbors farm house and saw him with his family cooking over the BBQ, he could smell the steaks from here and the laughter of the children brought a smile to his face.
He leaned back into the hay that he had spent the day baling and he wondered if life could get much better than this and then he saw her come out of the house and he realized that heaven did exist on this earth. Gail was the picture of everything that he had fought for in the war and he still remembered when he came home and lost himself in her arms; it was Gail that had gotten him through those dark days and now he looked forward to the future that promised so brightly for them both.
She waved to him and he smiled at the perfection that he saw, he leaped down from the barn and rushed towards her; he embraced her and knew that he had come home. He pulled back and saw that there was a sadness in her eyes, an change in her face that made him wonder what had happened perhaps something had happened to her sister or maybe her parents but in the back of his mind he heard a voice.
I, Steven Rogers, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic....
"What is it Gail? Whats wrong?" He looked at her but she just gazed at him, her hand reaching up to tussle his hair like she always did but it was the sad smile that she wore that concerned him "Do you hear it my love?" He wondered what she was talking about but now he was getting really worried "Gail, what is it?" She just continued to smile at him "You know what is wrong Steve, even now."
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
The sun was coming down low now and it framed her in a fierce halo of light, so bright that it seemed as if she was an angel sent to give him respite and hope it a time of despite need. He looked up and he saw something, a rocket or something in the skies above and panic seized him but there was something familiar about that missile, something that reminded him of something but he couldn't recall. "You do know it Steve, you know that missile all too well." He turned to look at Gail but now she was out of his arms out near the house, he stepped towards her but she held up her hand "Do you remember Steve?"
He was confused now, he did remember it but not the details. He could remember an explosion and then a bright light and feeling like he was drifting away but that made no sense he had come home, he remembered stepping off the boat in New York harbor. "Gail what is going on?" "You know what is happening Steve, you have to remember. Your country needs you."
and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me,
"Who is that speaking?" He looked around but the voice was hushed as if in the background but what scared him was that it was his voice that he was hearing. "Steve my love, you must remember." "Remember what Gail? I came home and put that all behind me." She looked so sad as she looked at him, reaching out for him as if she was across some invisible divide "No Steve you didn't."
It hit him with the force of nuclear explosion, his memories started to flood back to him and he roared in pain as he felt his dreams of hope and happiness slipping away from him. He was sobbing as he reached out for Gail who was now naught but a tiny speck of light on the horizon "GAIL!" "Steve, you swore an oath to defend this country and she needs you now, more than ever. America needs Captain America." Steve shook his head, he had served with honor, he had done his duty and now he was home "No, I have done my service and now I all I want is you." Her voice seemed like a whisper now as she reached out to him across time and space "America needs her Captain, the American dream is dying Steven because the dreamer is missing."
according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
"Gail please don't go." He reached for her one last time but as her voice faded away he tried one last time "Gail! Where are you going?" "To a place where I can watch over you, until we are united again in a place where shadows never fall..." The world went white and Steve fell, he could feel the rushing wind and the turmoil of the explosion as he fell between moments to places he knew not where.
-Medical Ward-
Steve's eyes flew open as Tony's hand tapped on his forehead. He had been captured by Nazis he thought; he recognized that he was in some sort of medical facility and guessed that those bastards where trying to experiment on him to secure the secrets that resided within his blood. His arms flashed out and grabbed Tony, using his core strength he hurled him at the guards that were pointing their weapons at him, he leaped out of the bed and grabbed the tray next to him to use as protection until he found his shield. Nick Fury looked on in shock but tried to calm the situation "Captain, stand down. Your amongst friends."
He rushed forward, he saw the mans uniform and saw that he was ranked as a General. The accent was almost perfect but the Nazis didn't do their homework too well and he drove his fist into Fury's face sending blood flying as he shattered his nose "Nice job Fitz but the highest ranking African American Officer in the US Army is a Captain and I served with him." He saw that he was surrounded so that had to change; the tall blonde came at him with a hand "I say thee cease thy attack; tis not what thou dost perceive Captain." Cap grabbed the mans wrist and twisted around into a rolling position using his momentum to hurl the man into the wall with maximum effect, he was the largest so he had to be put down violently and hard.
He saw the door and he hurled the tray at the balded man (Hawkeye) as he rushed past the woman "Excuse me ma'am" He leaped over the guards and made for the door to get out of here. He wondered where his shield and uniform were but he would secure those later once he had escaped and the odds of capture were not opposed to him as they were at this time.
